Nicolás Guillén Landrián, Cuba’s first black filmmaker, was ostracized and eventually exiled as a result of his avant-garde approach to filmmaking. In 2022, in recognition of the genius unrecognized in his own time, Cuban filmmaker Ernesto Daranas began a process of restoring some of Landrián’s most seminal works. This documentary takes us into Daranas’ investigation, a journey of discovery that features Gretel Alfonso (Landrián's widow) and the photographer Livio Delgado as they recall passages from the life and work of this pioneering Afro-Cuban documentary filmmaker.
