“Um Lobo Entre Os Cisnes” tells the true story of Thiago Soares, one of Brazil’s most celebrated ballet dancers, offering a compelling portrait of artistic excellence emerging from marginalized communities. At its core is a complex mentor-student relationship that invites reflection on power, discipline, and the transformative process of artistic formation. Its cross-cultural journey—from Rio’s favelas to the Royal Ballet in London—also provides a lens through which to examine class mobility, cultural capital, and the globalization of the performing arts. Drawing from Soares’s real-life trajectory, the film explores resilience, identity, and the power of art to transcend social and cultural boundaries.

“Um Lobo Entre Os Cisnes” narra la historia real de Thiago Soares, uno de los bailarines de ballet más aclamados de Brasil, ofreciendo un retrato cautivador de la excelencia artística que emerge de comunidades marginadas. En su núcleo se halla una compleja relación entre mentor y discípulo, la cual invita a reflexionar sobre el poder, la disciplina y el proceso transformador de la formación artística. Su travesía transcultural —desde las favelas de Río hasta el Royal Ballet de Londres— ofrece, asimismo, una perspectiva desde la cual examinar la movilidad social, el capital cultural y la globalización de las artes escénicas. Basándose en la trayectoria vital de Soares, la película explora la resiliencia, la identidad y el poder del arte para trascender las fronteras sociales y culturales.
About the Director
Helena Varvaki
Helena Varvaki is an award-winning Brazilian actress and director whose work spans theater, television, and film. Through a performance-driven approach, she brings depth and emotional nuance to stories centered on human experience. She has appeared in acclaimed series such as Sob Pressão and Todo Dia a Mesma Noite, as well as in multiple feature films. Expanding her work behind the camera, she co-directed A Wolf Among Swans (2025) with Marcos Schechtman.
Helena Varvaki es una actriz y directora brasileña galardonada cuya trayectoria abarca teatro, televisión y cine. A través de una mirada centrada en la interpretación, aporta profundidad y matices emocionales a historias que exploran la experiencia humana. Ha participado en series reconocidas como Sob Pressão y Todo Dia a Mesma Noite, así como en diversos largometrajes. Ampliando su trabajo detrás de cámara, codirigió A Wolf Among Swans (2025) junto a Marcos Schechtman.
