CIRCE

"Circe" is an Argentine suspense and psychological drama directed by Manuel Antín, based on the short story by Julio Cortázar, who co-wrote the screenplay with Antín and Héctor Grossi. The film stars Graciela Borges as Delia Mañara, a mysterious woman surrounded by the suspicious deaths of her former lovers. Set in Buenos Aires, the story explores the psychological tension between Delia and her third suitor, revealing themes of desire, suspicion, and moral ambiguity. Known for its oppressive atmosphere, careful composition, and character-focused storytelling, the film exemplifies Argentine auteur cinema of the 1960s. "Circe" connects literary adaptation and cinematic experimentation, reimagining the femme fatale archetype in a contemporary urban setting. The cast also includes Alberto Argibay, Raúl Aubel, Walter Vidarte, and Sergio Renán. The film was recognized internationally, entering the 14th Berlin International Film Festival in 1964.

“Circe” es una película argentina de suspenso y drama psicológico dirigida por Manuel Antín, basada en el cuento homónimo de Julio Cortázar, quien coescribió el guión junto a Antín y Héctor Grossi. La cinta está protagonizada por Graciela Borges en el papel de Delia Mañara, una mujer misteriosa rodeada por las sospechosas muertes de sus antiguos amantes. Ambientada en Buenos Aires, la historia explora la tensión psicológica entre Delia y su tercer pretendiente, revelando temas como el deseo, la sospecha y la ambigüedad moral. Conocida por su atmósfera opresiva, su cuidada composición visual y su narrativa centrada en los personajes, la película constituye un ejemplo representativo del cine de autor argentino de la década de 1960. “Circe” conecta la adaptación literaria con la experimentación cinematográfica, reinventando el arquetipo de la “femme fatale” en un entorno urbano contemporáneo.
