A filmmaker returns to his village to make a film about the death of a whale. He is excited to meet again with his old masters who are close to the end of their lives. They are an interesting lot. One is a painter obsessed with light. The other is a taxidermist who preserved the whale and finally, a musician who has not played the piano for fifteen years. His hometown, like the rest of Cuba, is now a place of ghosts besieged by death where you find anything but hope. These wise old men, among paintings, rust, bones and waiting like whales, have decided the place where they wish to die. For the director, this journey is a farewell to the country. He is pushed into escaping to a new destination to keep his hopes alive.
