BELÉN

“Belén” is inspired by the 2014 case of a young Argentine woman whose miscarriage led to a shocking murder charge. Imprisoned for 881 days, her story became a powerful symbol of institutional injustice. As attorney Soledad Deza takes on her defense, the case grows beyond the courtroom, igniting public outcry and contributing to a broader movement for legal and social change. Blending the urgency of a courtroom drama with intimate human stakes, Belén examines systemic violence, reproductive rights, and the collective struggle for justice. The film foregrounds the human cost of judicial bias, tracing how fear, stigma, and institutional neglect shape Belén’s experience behind bars. Through a restrained yet emotionally charged lens, it also highlights the solidarity networks that emerge in the face of injustice, turning an individual fight into a collective demand for dignity and change.
