Viva Cuba tells the story of two children Malú and Jorgito, who declare eternal friendship despite the battle between their families and the circumstances that threaten to separate them. When Malú’s grandmother dies and her mother threatens to emigrate, Malú and Jorgito see escape as the only hope for their friendship to survive.

Viva Cuba cuenta la historia de dos jóvenes, Malú y Jorgito, que se declaran amistad eterna a pesar de los conflictos entre sus familias y las circunstancias que amenazan con separarlos. Cuando la abuela de Malú muere y su mamá decide emigrar, los niños deciden escaparse para salvar su amistad.

JUAN CARLOS CREMATA

Juan Carlos Cremata Malberti was born in Cuba in 1961. In 1986 he graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA). In 1990 he studied at the Film School in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. From 1981- 1987 wrote and acted in children’s shows for the Cuban Institute for Radio and TV. In 1994-95 taught film editing and direction in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 1996 he received a John Simon Guggenheim grant for his short film, Oscuros Rinocerontes Enjaulados. Cremata has been invited to many international film festivals. Among the awards for his short film Nada are Best First Work at the Havana Film Festival, 2001; the IV Iberoamericano Festival of Santa Cruz, Bolivia; Vesuvio Award at the IV Festival in Naples, Italy. His feature film Viva Cuba was awarded Best Film For Children at the Cannes Film Festival (when?).

Juan Carlos Cremata Malberti nació en Cuba en 1961. En 1986 se graduó en el Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), en Cuba. En 1990 estudió en la Escuela de Cine de San Antonio Baños, Cuba. Entre 1981 y 1987 escribió y actuó en programas para niños del Instituto de Radio y TV de Cuba. Entre 1994-95 enseñó edición y dirección de cine en Buenos Aires, Argentina. En 1996 recibió la beca John Simon Guggenheim por su cortometraje Oscuros Rinocerontes Enjaulados. Cremata ha sido invitado a numerosos festivales internacionales de cine. Entre los premios recibidos por su cortometraje Nada se encuentran: Mejor Primer Film en el Havana Film Festival, 2001; IV Festival Iberoamericano de Santa Cruz, Bolivia; Premio Vesuvio en el IV Festival de Napoles, Italia. Su película Viva Cuba recibió el premio a la Mejor Pelicula para Niños en el Festival de Cine de Cannes.

IRAIDA MALBERTI CABRERA

Iraida Malberti Cabrera was born in Cuba in 1936. She has a PhD in pedagogy, is a choreographer, director of children’s programming for television, and director of the children’s ballet for Cuban television. She is credited on more than one hundred children’s programs and two series for children: And a Butterfly Says… and When I Grow Up… Malberti Cabrera has received numerous national and international prizes for her work and has been invited to festivals specialized in children’s cinema like Tam Tam Video (Italy), Kindredfilm and Prix Jeunesse (Germany) and Utrecht (Holland). Malberti Cabrera co-directed Viva Cuba with her son, Juan Carlos Cremata Malberti.

Iraida Malberti Cabrera nació en Cuba en 1936. Es doctora de pedogagía, coreógrafa, directora de programas infantiles para la television y directora del ballet infantile de la television cubana. Tiene en su haber más de cien programas infantiles y dos series para niños: “Y dice una mariposa…” y “Cuando yo sea grande”. Ha recibido numerosos premios nacionales e inetrnacionales por su labor, siendo invitada a festivals especializados en cine para niños como Tam Tam Video (Italia), Kinderfilm y Prix Jeunesse (Alemania) y Utrecht (Holanda). Malberti Cabrera codirigió Viva Cuba con su hijo, el director Juan Carlos Cremata Malberti.
