A dark look at the typical middle class Colombian family; their story casts a lens on often exaggerated interpretations of what it means to be Colombian. Each turn of the camera shows what’s behind the frozen smiles on family photos taken at “father’s” birthday celebration; mother and children hide behind hugs from the reality of their broken spirits. Below the tranquil façade is a family on the verge of exploding.

Una mirada negra a la típica familia estrato tres colombiana, que por ser el núcleo de la sociedad, permite mostrar algunas características exageradas de lo que significa “la colombianidad”. Es un giro de cámara que deja ver lo que hay detrás de las sonrisas congeladas de la foto de cumpleaños de padre, madre e hijos aparentemente felices que se abrazan, ignorando y olvidando que por dentro están rotos. Que no son tan felices como aparentan. Y que por debajo de la fachada de tranquilidad, hay una olla podrida a punto de estallar.

HAROLD TROMPETERO

Born in Bogota, Colombia in 1971, he majored in Communcations at Universidad Javeriana and Public Relations at Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano. He studied film in Cuba (EICTV), Spain, and France. He completed his first feature film, Diastole y systole: Los movimientos del corazon, in 2000. He has worked as Director of television series and novellas, commercials, music videos and video art and has received awards in several Publicity festivals, including a Golden Bear at Cannes, FIAP and New York Film Festival, among others. He has received awards for video art in Laitn America and Europe and grants from the Colombian government. His second film, Violeta no esta muerta, was completed in 2002. In 2004 he Produced and Co-Directed the feature, Dios los junta y ellos se separan, alongside Jairo Carrillo.

Nació en 1971, en Bogotá Colombia. Comunicador Social de la Universidad Javeriana y Publicista de la Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano. Realizó estudios de cine en Cuba, (EICTV), en España y Francia. En el 2000 hizo su primer largo, Diástole y Sístole, Los movimientos del corazón. Se ha desempeñado como director de series y novelas para televisión, comerciales, videos musicales y video arte. Ha recibido premios en distintos festivales de publicidad entre los que cuentan un León de Oro en Cannes, FIAP y New York Festival entre otros. Ha recibido premios en el área del video arte en Latinoamérica y Europa y becas de creación por parte del gobierno colombiano. En el 2002 filmó su segundo filme, Violeta no está muerta y en el 2004 produjo y codirigió junto a Jairo Eduardo Carrillo el largo Dios los Junta y ellos se separan. Actualmente desarrolla distintos proyectos audiovisuales en la ciudad de New York.

JAIRO E. CARRILLO

Born in Cücata, Colombia in 1969, he majored in Communications with and emphasis in educational television at Universidad Javeriana and has a Master’s in Digital Imaging and Computer Animation from London Guildhall University. He has worked on documentaries for Britain’s BBC and National Geographic. Back in Colombia he was Assitant Director on the series Cartas a Harrison, and 2nd Director on the novela Maria Bonita. While living in London for seven years he Directeda dn Produced animations for the British Arts Council, the Colchester Mayor’s Office, UNESCO, and UNICEF, among others. Carrillo was Professor of Animation at London Metopolitan University. He currently teaches at Universidad Los Andes en Bogota and is preparing for his second film.

Nació en Cúcuta, Colombia en 1969. Es comunicador social con énfasis en televisión educativa de la Universidad Javeriana y Master en Imagen Digital y Animación por computador del London Guildhall University. Ha trabajado para documentales producidos para la BBC de Londres y Nacional Geographic. En Colombia fue el director asistente de la serie Cartas a Harrison y el segundo director de la novela María Bonita. Vivió durante siete años en Londres donde dirigió, produjo y realizó animaciones para el Arts Council de Inglaterra, la Alcaldía de Colchester, la UNESCO y la UNICEF, entre otros. Se desempeñó como professor en animación en London Metropolitan University. Actualmente ejerce como docente en la Universidad de Los Andes en Bogotá y está preparando su segunda película.
