Morgana is a Mexican transgender opera singer with a relentless determination to fight against social stigma and family prejudice.Her dream is to have a sex reassignment surgery. Her only chance to make it happen is to win a beauty pageant in Bangkok and use the U$D10,000 cash award to pay for the surgery. The documentary embarks on Morgana’s odyssey as she follows her dream of self asserting the identity she has been struggling all her life to construct.
Morgana es una cantante de ópera transgénero determinada a autoafirmar su identidad a pesar de los prejuicios familiares y el estigma social. Su sueño es una cirugía de reasignación de sexo. Para hacerlo realidad su única carta es ganar un concurso de belleza en Bangkok y con el premio pagar la operación. El documental acompaña la odisea de Morgana en cuanto nos brinda un retrato íntimo sobre la construcción de una identidad perseguida durante toda la vida.
Flavio Florencio (Buenos Aires, 1979) After traveling extensively through various African countries, he studied social documentary in Barcelona. Later on he moved to Mexico where he created promotional campaigns for human rights initiatives. Afterwards he joined the organizing team of the Zanzibar International Film Festival in Tanzania. Back in Mexico, he founded the first African Film Festival in Latin America: Africala. He worked as a freelancer for institutions such as the UN, Ford Foundation and the Filmoteca of the Universidad Autónoma de México (UNAM). Currently, he is the artistic director of the Mexican Human Rights Film Festival. Made in Bangkok is his first feature documentary
