Synopsis

Mercedes is a music teacher who dreams of the day her husband will return home from the United States. He has continued to write and send her monthly checks. Mercedes lives with her children: the eldest Sebastián has political aspirations and attempts to maintain his family together; Alicia, a university student who hopes to travel to the US in search for her father; and Javier, the youngest, who follows his mother’s musical steps as a flute player. This film presents an inside glimpse into a Cuban family’s existential anguish in the Havana of the 1950s.

Director's Bio

Manuel Herrera was born in Santa Clara, Cuba. He is director and screenwriter. He graduated from the Universidad de La Habana with a degree in Political Sciences. He has written scripts for television and films. He has also published science fiction short stories, articles and movie reviews. He was awarded with the Cultural National Distinction of Cuba and the Laureado’s Seal. Currently, he combines his skills as a director at the “Cinemateca de Cuba” as well as in the area of cinematography.
